Applebee's Closes Danvers Location
Applebee's has been scaling back operations in Massachusetts, with just four locations remaining in greater Boston.
DANVERS, MA — The Applebee's at 50 Independence Way is the latest Massachusetts location to be closed by the national restaurant chain. According to Boston Restaurant Talk, the restaurant was closed last month, leaving just four locations inside the Route 128 belt. In recent years, Applebee's has closed restaurants in Back Bay, Braintree, Brighton, Dedham, Malden, and Newton, leaving it with restaurants in South Bay, Quincy, Saugus, and Woburn.
In February 2018, Applebee's said it would close 60 to 80 locations after closing 99 restaurant in 2017. Its sister brand, IHOP, was expected to close 30 to 40 locations in 2018. During the quarterly conference call where the closings were announced executives said the two brands had been unsuccessful in efforts to win over millennials as customers.
